XML sitemap checker
Enter a website to discover its sitemaps, follow sitemap indexes within a fixed budget, and review URL counts, freshness and common protocol errors.
Run the check, then ship the workflow
Use the browser tool for a fast answer, then move the same logic into scripts, monitoring, or product flows when it becomes repeatable.
Outputs highlight statuses, risks, records, and next actions instead of raw provider noise.
Use the request and response examples to turn a one-off check into an API call or recipe.

What this tool helps you decide
Each page is shaped around a practical operational question, not just a raw lookup.
See the current DNS, registration, security, pricing, or reputation evidence.
Compare the result with related checks so the next move is easier to trust.
Copy examples, open linked tools, or move into API documentation when you need scale.
Trust signals before you integrate
Transparent docs, authenticated requests, and visible reliability details make it easier to evaluate DomScan before you ship.
OpenAPI, Swagger, Postman, CLI, SDK, and MCP links are one click away.
Authenticated endpoints use API keys with clear credit costs before you call them.
Start with 10,000 monthly credits and upgrade only when usage grows.
Start from the curl and HTTP samples, then map the parameters into your application code.
Key Features
Sitemaps declared in robots.txt are followed first, with /sitemap.xml and /sitemap_index.xml as fallbacks.
Show the newest and oldest valid lastmod dates, the share of sitemap entries with a valid lastmod, and whether image, video, news, or hreflang extensions are present. Dates are publisher-provided metadata; the checker does not verify when a page actually changed. Google says it uses lastmod only when it is consistently and verifiably accurate.
Flags entry and size limits, invalid locations, cross-host URLs, duplicates, invalid or future dates, and HTML served instead of XML.
Example request
GET /v1/sitemaps?url=example.com
GET /v1/sitemaps?url=example.com&max_sitemaps=10
Built on the same API
The browser experience previews DomScan's structured endpoints, so teams can validate a use case before writing code.
Frequently asked questions
Up to 5 sitemap files by default and up to 10 through the API. Files beyond the budget are listed as skipped, so counts cover the fetched files only.
Each sitemap file may list up to 50,000 URLs and be up to 50 MB uncompressed. Larger sites split their URLs across several files listed in a sitemap index.
Compressed .gz sitemaps are reported as unsupported rather than guessed, so you know they were not read.
