Terms of Service
Effective: 2026-07-30
TL;DR: Use the API responsibly. Don't abuse it. Pay for what you use. We'll do our best to keep things running smoothly.
Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using DomScan, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.
DomScan is operated by Esteve Castells trading as DomScan.
You must be at least 18 years old or have parental consent to use this service.
The Service
DomScan provides:
- Domain availability checking via RDAP
- DNS lookups and security analysis
- Domain valuation estimates
- Typosquatting detection
- Other domain intelligence tools
We query public registries (RDAP servers) to provide domain information. We don't guarantee the accuracy of third-party data - registry data can be outdated or incorrect.
A missing, blocked, rate-limited, ambiguous or failed source is not proof that a domain, name or resource is available, claimable or safe. Results are information, not legal, financial or professional advice.
Your Account
- You're responsible for keeping every API key you can access secure
- Don't share sign-in credentials. Use account invitations to grant access to approved team members
- Notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorized access
- Each email address can belong to one active customer account at a time
- You are responsible for team members you authorize and for choosing account roles that match their responsibilities.
Acceptable Use
You may:
- Use the API for legitimate domain research and monitoring
- Integrate our API into your applications
- Cache results locally (respecting our cache headers)
- Build commercial products using our API
You may not:
- Attempt to circumvent rate limits or authentication
- Resell raw API access without adding value
- Use the service for illegal activities
- Scrape the website instead of using the API
- Attack or attempt to compromise our infrastructure
- Use the service for spamming or phishing
- Abuse RDAP servers through our service
API Usage & Credits
Credit System
- API calls consume credits based on endpoint complexity
- Free tier includes limited monthly credits
- Purchased credits don't expire
- Credits are non-refundable once used
- DomScan uses pay-as-you-go credits. A credit purchase does not renew automatically.
Unused credits may qualify for a refund within 30 days. Credits already used are generally nonrefundable. Eligible failed API requests receive automatic credit refunds. See Refund Policy.
Rate Limits
- Rate limits exist to ensure fair usage and protect upstream servers
- Consistently hitting rate limits may result in temporary restrictions
- Contact us for higher limits if you have a legitimate use case
Service Availability
We aim for high availability but don't guarantee 100% uptime. We may:
- Perform maintenance (we'll try to notify in advance)
- Rate limit during traffic spikes
- Temporarily disable features for security reasons
Customer Data and Processing
You retain rights in data you submit. You authorize DomScan to host, transmit and process that data only as needed to provide, secure and support the service, comply with law and handle requests you initiate.
API inputs may be sent to public data sources. Some registry and certificate-transparency requests may use Webshare as a proxy. Customer-provided personal data is processed under the Data Processing Addendum where DomScan acts as processor. Data Processing Addendum.
API, CLI, MCP, Batches and Webhooks
You must keep access credentials confidential, follow documented request formats and respect rate limits and technical safeguards. Batch inputs, results and webhook configuration are retained for 24 hours. You are responsible for ensuring webhook destinations are authorized and secure.
Intellectual Property
- Our code, design, and branding belong to DomScan
- Domain data comes from public registries - we don't claim ownership of it
- Your data belongs to you
- API responses may be used in your applications
Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS"
We don't guarantee that:
- Domain availability results are 100% accurate (registries can lag)
- The service will be uninterrupted or error-free
- Domain valuations reflect actual market value
- RDAP data is current or complete
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- We're not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
- Our liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the last 12 months
- We're not responsible for losses from relying on inaccurate domain data
Nothing in these Terms limits rights or liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
Suspension and Termination
DomScan may limit or suspend access when reasonably necessary to address an unpaid purchase, fraud, credential compromise, security risk, abusive use, a legal requirement or a material breach of these Terms. Where practical, DomScan will explain the reason and restore access when the issue is resolved.
You may stop using DomScan at any time and may request account deletion. Refunds and remaining credits are handled under the Refund Policy. Privacy and data-retention obligations continue where applicable after access ends.
Changes to Terms
We may update these terms. When we do:
- We'll update the "Effective" date at the top
- For significant changes, we'll notify you via email
- Continued use after changes means you accept the new terms
